Looking into the room from the door.
Looking back at the door and my desk area. My desk is hidden behind the slanted bookshelf and read the room wands.
Behind the cabinets is the cubby area. Or just the the right when you walk through the door and into the room. Also where I store my books for read alouds (organized by subject area).
Our classroom entryway is fairly large, so it's the home of our Art Center. This year I added the small cork boards for children to hang their art center creations!
"Bee-utiful Work" If you look closely you'll see a little bee in the
top right corner of each child's work, that is labeled with the child's
name.
In that same area I have 2 large file cabinets. Since they are in the entryway, this one holds our morning question bugs. The children pick up their bug as they walk into the room so they can use it to answer our morning question.
On the bathroom door (again in that same area of the room), hangs our center time choice board. Children look at pictures to decide which free choice center they'd like to play in. Once they decide they take one of the labeled clothes pins and clip it onto our clothes. This helps limit the number of children at each center as well as helps the teacher to know where each child should be playing.
Next to my desk and sink is the discovery or since table. This bulletin board houses our calendar since it is the only board at the front of the room. It's also just to the right of our meeting carpet.
This is our hallway bulletin board. I LOVE it!
On the back wall of our classroom we have windows and a door into the adjoining kindergarten room. This was very handy when we were sharing a special educator and aids. It's also where we keep our classroom computer, listening center and blocks area. I love that I have the blocks in a wagon!!
Moving to the right again, along the windows we have our handwriting folders and word work journals bins.
In front of this window is our writing center. It's hard to see, but there are different types of paper, writing utensils and different forms of word books and/or words on rings to use as a reference.
A closer look at the writing utensils in their new home at the writing center. Using a planter goes along with my garden theme.
Our classroom library. Reading buddies are in the wheelbarrow. Books are in baskets on the shelves to the left and to the right. The carpet is meant to look like grass. And of course, lots of cozy pillows.
Some of our books.
And each week we add 1 or 2 words to the board as a class. This is where they are stored when first introduced and practiced before being added to the word wall.
Setting up my room is one of my favorite things to do. I hope you've enjoyed the quick tour of my room.
:) Laura
